Jeffrey Wammes
Jeffrey Wammes is a Dutch gymnastic who was born in Utrecht. Jeffrey’s father Theo is a Dutchman and his mother Ciska is a quarter Surinamese and a quarter Antillean. But Jeffrey finds himself more Dutch. Jeffrey got two sisters, ex-gymnast Gabriëlla and karate athlete Priscilla. He is active on the highest level for years and is a figurehead of the Dutch gymnastics for men.
When Jeffrey was three years old, his sister Gabriëlla was discovered as gymnastic talent and she joined “Pro Patria Zoetermeer.” Jeffrey drove every morning with his mother or father to bring Gabriëlla to school and gymnastics. This was the way that Jeffrey came in contact with gymnastics. When it became obvious that Jeffrey was also talented, who was training at Pro Patria Zoetermeer as well, the family moved to Zoetermeer. Jeffrey started gymnastics at the age of 5. That turned into a 28 hours trainings week, which he does with a lot of joy and pleasure. He developed well as a promising talent and a fixed value in the Dutch gymnastics sport. Since 2004 he competed in the senior tour. Years of hard work and training, made that he got several medals on the National Championships, International competitions and tournaments. He reached golden medals on floor and vault at World Cups for the first time in Dutch gymnastic history.
In his first international season, during the world cup matches he reached so many finals, that he finally participated at the World Cup final in December 2004 in Birmingham, UK. He reached a 6th place. Jeffrey showed the international gymnastics world a great performance. At 2005 he won several medals, including gold. Jeffrey Wammes is studying at the ZadkineCollege in Rotterdam next to his sport career. They offer a possibility to combine top sport with a study. In daily life he studies the course International Wholesale.
However, at the World Cup in Lyon in 2006 it did not go well. He broke his both ankles. It were very complicated fractures, and that is why they were afraid of his career. Above all expectations, his recovery went very well. Wammes could compete at the World Championships in that same year. He became Dutch Champion in 2005, 2007 en 2008. Till now he obtained several international successes.
His big goal at this moment is to be at the Olympic Games in London 2012.
